Basement or Garage
Floor Drain Backed Up?

Floor drains are easy to forget until they stop working. If water is pooling around your water heater, laundry area, or garage, we can clear the silt and debris instantly.

We also fix Sewer Smells

Does Your Basement Smell Like Rotten Eggs?

This is usually caused by a "Dry Trap."

Every floor drain has a U-shaped pipe underneath designed to hold water. This water acts as a barrier to stop sewer gas from coming up. If you haven't used that drain in months, the water evaporates, and the smell enters your home.

The Fix: Pour a bucket of water down the drain. If the smell persists, call us—you might have a crack or a clog.

Critical Warning

Is Water Coming UP?

If water flows out of your floor drain when you flush a toilet or run the washing machine, this is not a floor drain clog. This is a Main Sewer Line Backup.

The floor drain is simply the lowest point in the system, so the sewage appears there first.

Stop City Sewer Backups

During heavy rains, the city sewer system can get overloaded and push water backwards into your home. A Backwater Valve is a mechanical flap we install in your floor drain.

  • Allows water to flow OUT of your house.
  • Automatically closes if city water tries to come IN.
  • Essential for basements in low-lying areas.

Floor Drain FAQ

How often should I clean my floor drain?

You should test it twice a year by pouring a bucket of water down it. If it drains slowly, it needs cleaning. Also, check the grate monthly to remove lint, pet hair, or debris sitting on top.

Why is there sand in my garage drain?

Garage drains (catch basins) are designed to trap heavy solids like sand and salt from your car tires so they don't enter the sewer. Over time, this "sump" area fills up and must be vacuumed out or scooped out to allow water to flow again.

Can I seal off a floor drain I don't use?

We generally advise against permanently sealing it with concrete. If your water heater bursts or a pipe leaks, that drain is the only thing saving your basement from flooding. Use a rubber expansion plug if you need to temporarily seal it for odors.
